FAQ's

After getting a dental implant, it’s important to maintain good oral hygiene. This includes brushing twice a day with a soft-bristle toothbrush, flossing daily, and using an antimicrobial mouthwash. Regular dental check-ups and cleanings are also essential to monitor the implant’s condition.

Some mild discomfort or swelling may occur after the implant procedure, but it is typically manageable with over-the-counter pain medications. Your dentist may also provide specific post-operative instructions and prescribe medication, if necessary, to ensure a comfortable recovery.

The healing process after getting a dental implant can vary from person to person. It generally takes a few months for the implant to fully integrate with the jawbone, but your dentist will provide a specific timeline based on your individual case.

It is recommended to stick to a soft or liquid diet for a few days after the implant procedure to allow for proper healing. Your dentist will provide dietary guidelines based on your specific needs. Once fully healed, you can resume a normal, healthy diet.

I'd like to share a detailed and honest review of my experience. I'm an Australian patient who was in search of an affordable option abroad to improve my smile and bite functionality, as dental costs in Australia tend to be quite high. After extensive research, I came across Meraki Dental Studio in Delhi, India. In March, I made the decision to travel to Delhi and begin my smile makeover journey. My initial visit took place in April, during which Dr. Harleen and her team conducted five dental implants and addressed various other minor dental issues. After a waiting period, I returned to receive crowns for my missing teeth and 18 porcelain veneers. Along the way, there were a few minor challenges, but Dr. Harleen consistently chose not to take shortcuts. Instead, she always found solutions to ensure my satisfaction, even if it meant some(quite a bit) inconvenience on her end. Dr. Harleen is not only an exceptional dentist but also a remarkable and humble person. I've never been as satisfied with a healthcare practitioner before. What truly stood out about Meraki Dental Studio is their unwavering commitment to prioritizing patient satisfaction over financial considerations, which is a rarity in the healthcare industry. I'm incredibly grateful for the care I received at Meraki Dental Studio, and the results of their work are truly remarkable. I've attached some before-and-after photos so you can witness the impressive transformation achieved by Dr. Harleen and her team.

I had visited Dr. Harleen for consultation and after a lot of research and looking into other options. I couldn’t find someone better than her in terms of experience, services, technology, price and most of all her warm and understanding nature. I went ahead with an entire smile makeover (veneers, crown, gingivectomy, zoom whitening, composite filling) and I am more than satisfied. The finish is so natural. She worked so hard to make sure every detail and need was fulfilled. Her entire team is so amazing. They made sure I was looked after well in all my sittings. They were professional yet so fun. The most important part is my smile speaks volume of the work Dr did on me. Its more than amazing (it looks so natural). I highly recommend Dr Harleen for anything dental. She also managed to save two of my teeth from a root canal which was so impressive. For a person who doesn’t like visiting dentist, I wouldn’t mind visiting her again rather than delaying my treatments. Ps. I traveled from Indore to get my treatment done by her because she is that good.

What follow-up care is necessary after getting a dental implant?

Got yourself dental implants recently? Are you wondering what to do after your dental implant surgery? Not to worry, The best dentist in Delhi Dr. Harleen Gandhi is here to give you tips on how to make your implant last for a very long time.

Care should be taken in the immediate postoperative period to minimize contact with the implant. Aside from normal hygiene, it is best to completely leave the implant alone for the first 2 weeks after placement.

Keep reading on to know what to expect and follow after a dental implant surgery-

1.Diet

Make sure you do all of the following:

  • Drink plenty of fluids.
  • Avoid consuming hot food and drink until the anesthetic wears off.
  • Eat soft foods for a day after your surgery.
  • Don’t ‘swill’ liquid over the area of your dental work.

Drink:

  • Water
  • Juice
  • Ice Chips
  • Popsicles

Eat:

  • Applesauce
  • Jell-O
  • Pudding
  • Yogurt
  • Milkshake (no straw)

Soft Foods When Numbness is Gone

  • Mashed Potatoes
  • Pasta
  • Eggs
  • Pancakes
  • Creamed Cereals
  • Soups (be careful-not too hot)

Increase Diet as Tolerated

2. Pain and medications

You can take painkillers when you feel the anaesthesia wearing off. Be careful to always follow the prescription provided by the dentist for your medications.

If an antibiotic is prescribed, take the tablets or liquid as directed. Take the entire prescription until gone. Antibiotics can be given to help prevent infection. Make sure to call your dentist if a rash or other unfavorable reaction occurs.

3.Bleeding

If you experience a little bleeding, don’t worry that’s completely normal. It’s likely you’ll see a small amount of blood in your saliva for up to 24 hours after your surgery.

In case you are bleeding excessively, consult your dentist for a follow up visit.

4.Swelling

You can expect a bit of swelling after dental surgery. We recommend placing an ice pack on the cheek closest to the surgical area; this will help bring it down.

If bruising appears, don’t worry, this is to be expected and will most likely peak between two to three days after your surgery.

5.Oral hygiene

  • Put a teaspoon of salt in a warm cup of water and mix it to create a saltwater solution. Rinse it around your mouth. Do this between four to five times a day, especially after meals. Do this every day for a week after your procedure. Make sure the water isn’t scolding hot, this could cause more harm than good!
  • You can brush your teeth as you usually would, (including the evening following your surgery) just try to avoid touching the surgical site for a couple of days. When you feel ready, be super gentle with it because it’ll be a little sensitive.
  • Don’t use a water jet or an electric toothbrush, for now, clean your teeth using a traditional brush.
  • Do your best to keep food away from the surgical area (try chewing on the other side of your mouth)
  • If you’re a smoker, don’t smoke until the wound fully healed. Prematurely smoking can severely hinder the healing process.
  • Don’t attempt to floss or water-pick anywhere near the surgery site for at least a week.
  • Don’t consume alcohol for a week after surgery because this can prevent your gums from healing.

6.Exercises

Keep physical exertion to a minimum during the aftermath of your surgery. Physical activity after your procedure can cause painful throbbing and bleeding.

7.Dental Implant Follow Up

Dental Implant Follow Up – The first year following surgery is the most critical time for healing. It can take up to 12 months for the process of Osseo integration to occur. It is also the time when the gums are most vulnerable to infection. Implant failure is much more likely to occur during this period than at any time after that first year – Dental Implant Follow Up.

After you’ve had dental implants, we suggest visiting your dentist regularly, at least once every three months. This helps to ensure your implants are kept as clean as possible and minimizes the risk of infection.
