Mottled Teeth Correction using Dental Veneers & Crowns

FAQ's

Mottled teeth, also known as dental fluorosis, can be caused by excessive fluoride intake during tooth development, typically from sources such as drinking water, fluoride supplements, or certain dental products. It can result in white or brown stains and irregular tooth coloration.

Treatment options for mottled teeth depend on the severity of the condition. They may include professional teeth whitening to improve overall tooth color, dental bonding or veneers to cover and mask the stains, or in severe cases, porcelain crowns or dental contouring to reshape and enhance the appearance of affected teeth.

In mild cases, where the mottled appearance is minor, teeth whitening treatments or enamel microabrasion may help improve the appearance. However, in more severe cases, the discoloration may require more extensive treatments, such as dental bonding or veneers, to achieve desired results.

Mottled teeth treatments can provide long-lasting results, but it’s important to note that proper oral hygiene, regular dental care, and avoidance of excessive fluoride exposure are essential to maintain the improved appearance. Following a recommended oral care routine and visiting your dentist regularly are key to preserving the results of treatment.

I'd like to share a detailed and honest review of my experience. I'm an Australian patient who was in search of an affordable option abroad to improve my smile and bite functionality, as dental costs in Australia tend to be quite high. After extensive research, I came across Meraki Dental Studio in Delhi, India. In March, I made the decision to travel to Delhi and begin my smile makeover journey. My initial visit took place in April, during which Dr. Harleen and her team conducted five dental implants and addressed various other minor dental issues. After a waiting period, I returned to receive crowns for my missing teeth and 18 porcelain veneers. Along the way, there were a few minor challenges, but Dr. Harleen consistently chose not to take shortcuts. Instead, she always found solutions to ensure my satisfaction, even if it meant some(quite a bit) inconvenience on her end. Dr. Harleen is not only an exceptional dentist but also a remarkable and humble person. I've never been as satisfied with a healthcare practitioner before. What truly stood out about Meraki Dental Studio is their unwavering commitment to prioritizing patient satisfaction over financial considerations, which is a rarity in the healthcare industry. I'm incredibly grateful for the care I received at Meraki Dental Studio, and the results of their work are truly remarkable. I've attached some before-and-after photos so you can witness the impressive transformation achieved by Dr. Harleen and her team.

I had visited Dr. Harleen for consultation and after a lot of research and looking into other options. I couldn’t find someone better than her in terms of experience, services, technology, price and most of all her warm and understanding nature. I went ahead with an entire smile makeover (veneers, crown, gingivectomy, zoom whitening, composite filling) and I am more than satisfied. The finish is so natural. She worked so hard to make sure every detail and need was fulfilled. Her entire team is so amazing. They made sure I was looked after well in all my sittings. They were professional yet so fun. The most important part is my smile speaks volume of the work Dr did on me. Its more than amazing (it looks so natural). I highly recommend Dr Harleen for anything dental. She also managed to save two of my teeth from a root canal which was so impressive. For a person who doesn’t like visiting dentist, I wouldn’t mind visiting her again rather than delaying my treatments. Ps. I traveled from Indore to get my treatment done by her because she is that good.

Mottled Teeth Treatment in Delhi

Enamel may appear yellow/ brown discolouration and/ or many pitted white-brown lesions that look like cavities and they are often described as “mottled teeth”, Mottling of teeth, Mottled enamel or Enamel fluorosis/Dental Fluorosis – Mottled Teeth Treatment in Delhi.

What is Mottling of Teeth/Dental Fluorosis?

What is mottling of teeth – Dental fluorosis (pronounced “floo-roh-sis”) is a common condition that can affect the appearance of children’s teeth due to the hypocalcification of tooth enamel. Hypocalcification means having less than normal amount of calcification in the teeth, leading to spots of softer enamel and discoloration

Most cases of fluorosis are mild and do not  cause pain. Adults aren’t affected by fluorosis.

How to Diagnosis Mottling of Teeth?

The adequate diagnosis of fluorosis can be diagnosed by visual clinical examination. This requires inspection of dry and clean tooth surfaces under a good lighting. There are individual variations in clinical fluorosis manifestation which are highly dependent on the duration, timing, and dosage of fluoride exposure.

There are different classifications to diagnose the severity based on the appearances. The clinical manifestation of mild dental fluorosis is mostly characterised a snow flaking appearance that lack a clear border, opaque, white spots, narrow white lines following the perikymata or patches as the opacities may coalesce with an intact, hard and smooth enamel surface on most of the teeth.

With increasing severity, the subsurface enamel, all along the tooth becomes more porous. Enamel may appear yellow/ brown discolouration and/or pitted white-brown lesions that look like cavities. They are often described as “mottled teeth”.

Fluorosis does not cause discolouration to the enamel directly, as upon eruption into the mouth, affected permanent teeth are not discoloured yet.  In dental  fluorosis, enamel has subsurface porosity or hypomineralization, which extend toward the dentin-enamel junction as the condition progresses and the affected teeth become more susceptible to staining. Due to diffusion of exogenous ions (e.g., iron and copper), stains develop into the increasingly and abnormally porous enamel.

Differential Diagnosis of Mottling of Teeth

The differential diagnosis for this condition includes:

  • Turner’s hypoplasia (although this is usually more localized)
  • Enamel defects caused by an undiagnosed and untreated celiac disease
  • Some mild forms of amelogenesis imperfecta and enamel hypoplasia
  • Enamel defects caused by infection of a primary tooth predecessor
  • Dental caries
  • Dental Trauma: Mechanical trauma to the primary tooth may cause disturbance to the maturation phase of enamel formation, which may result in enamel opacities on the permanent successors

Fluorosis Treatments for Mottling of Teeth – Fluorosis treatment Delhi

Fluorosis treatment Delhi – In many cases, fluorosis is so mild that no treatment is needed. Or, it may only affect the back teeth where it can’t be seen.

The appearance of teeth affected by moderate-to-severe fluorosis can be significantly improved by a variety of techniques. Most of them are aimed at masking the stains.

Such techniques may include:

  • Bonding, which coats the tooth with a hard resin that bonds to the enamel
  • Crowns
  • Veneers, which are custom-made shells that cover the front of the teeth to improve their appearance; these are used in cases of severe fluorosis.
  • MI Paste , a calcium phosphate product that is sometimes combined with methods like microabrasion to minimize tooth discoloration.
  • ICON Treatment
