Dental Checkup and Hygiene

Routine dental checkup provides you with an opportunity to get your teeth and gums cleaned which prevents cavities, plaque build-up and eliminates any gum diseases or decay. Above all, it gives a brighter smile that you always longed for. We encourage patients to book dental checkup and hygiene visits every six months. Regular visits help unearth teeth and gums related problems at its initial stage, which help us to usually correct the identified issues conservatively, effectively and at significantly less cost compared to what you may otherwise incur on intensive dental treatments if you let your problems go unchecked for too long.
  • During your dental checkup, we inspect your teeth and gums, clean your teeth by gently removing plaque and finish by polishing your teeth. We also provide effective brushing and flossing techniques and answer any questions about your home care routine
  • Then we will screen for tooth and gum diseases and oral problems that can escalate into serious issues if left untreated. These include gum disease, tooth decay, malocclusion, and faulty dental work. If we find early-stage gum disease (gingivitis) or advanced gum disease (periodontitis), we will recommend periodontal therapy.
  • And finally, our dental team will take X-rays and digital photos to help determine any underlying issues that need to be addressed. We can also discuss cosmetic dentistry enhancements if you are interested in improving the appearance of your smile

Gum Disease Treatment

ortho_inco_inner Periodontal (Gum) disease is an infection of the tissues supporting the teeth mainly caused by the accumulation of bacteria from dental plaque that inflames and damages the gums. This chronic infection attacks your mouth below the gum line where it breaks down the attachment of the tooth and its supporting tissues.
Factors increasing the risk of developing gum diseases include:
  • Tobacco smoking and chewing
  • Systemic illnesses like diabetes or cancer
  • Hormonal changes during pregnancy and menstruation
  • Medications such as contraceptives and anticonvulsants
  • Ill-fitted bridges and incorrect fillings that have become defective.

Regular dental checkup and examinations are imperative given the possibility of gum infection development without its usual signs and symptoms. They may advance painlessly, exhibiting few evident signs even in the late phase of the disease. This explains the increased risk of losing one's teeth.

Various symptoms may point to some form of gum disease, including red, swollen and tender gums, pus & pockets between gums and teeth, receding gums, gums that bleed during or after brushing, flossing or eating hard food, loose, shifting or separating teeth, bad breath, persistent bad metallic taste in mouth, mouth sores, changes in the fit of dentures and the way the teeth fit during bites.

Periodontal diseases are classified according to the severity of the infection and are traditionally divided into two stages.

Gingivitis (inflammation of the gums) is a fairly common infection that begins with the bacterial accumulation in the mouth. The buildup of plaque causes gums to become red and swollen, and bleed easily. It is often a result of poor oral hygiene, inadequate nutrition and some other medical conditions. When left untreated, gingivitis can progress to Periodontitis.

Periodontitis is the advanced stage of gingivitis where severe infection erodes the supporting structures of the teeth. The progressive loss and destruction of the bones, teeth and gums weakens the attachments and loosens the teeth.
Daily oral hygiene like brushing, flossing and regular use of an antiseptic mouthwash is critical in preventing gum diseases. You should use fluoridated toothpastes and replace toothbrushes once every three months.
One should maintain a healthy diet that takes care of growth as well as health of the gums and teeth. Avoid frequent consumption of sugary foods and liquids; sugar allows bacterial adhesion and accumulation to the teeth and the tissues surrounding it. It is advisable to limit sugar intake during the main meals of the day. Drinking plenty of water can help reduce inflammation by producing more saliva which in turn dilutes toxins from plaque.
Regular visits to the dentist and dental examinations will help identify and address the risk and occurrence of infections. Progressive stages of the disease may call for more intensive treatments.

Tooth Extractions

Tooth extractions can be a simple or surgical one, which can also form the basis for future cosmetic dental treatments. Simple extractions are usually performed when the tooth is visible, already loose and only require dental forceps to lift the tooth after it has been rocked back and forth. On the other hand, surgical extraction involves the removal of teeth that cannot be easily accessed because they have not fully erupted or they have broken under the gums. This requires an incision and frequently, the tooth to be extracted are split into multiple pieces to be able to easily remove it. The following conditions may require a tooth extraction procedure:
  • Rotten teeth that cannot be repaired to prevent infection
  • To create space for orthodontic treatment / braces
  • Damaged teeth caused by injuries such as trips, falls, sports accidents, etc.
  • Gum disease, which affects the tissues and sockets in the gum that hold the teeth in place, making it to become loose
  • Overcrowded teeth owing to a smaller jaw size
  • Eruption of wisdom teeth affecting the positioning and space of teeth

Once your dentist decides that a tooth needs to be extracted, she may carry out the procedure either during your regular checkup or may schedule an appointment. She may even recommend a cosmetic dental option.
Surgical Extraction of Wisdom Teeth

Wisdom teeth, the third and final set of molars found at the back of the mouth, mostly erupt during late teens or early twenties. They are a valuable asset when they grow healthy and properly positioned but may require removal in case of any misalignment or other issues. Misaligned wisdom teeth can grow inward, sideways and, at times, positioned horizontally. This eventually can crowd out and damage the adjacent teeth, jaw or even the nerves. Those wisdom teeth that grow leaning towards other molars may make them vulnerable to decay by harboring food particles and dental plaque. Other issues with wisdom teeth include partial eruption through the gums or ‘impacted teeth’ – those that remain partially or completely entrapped within the soft tissues or within the jawbones. Such issues typically leave an opening for bacteria to enter and multiply, causing infections. Visit your dentist so that she can examine the positioning of your wisdom teeth with the help of an X-Ray. The dentist may advise extractions even before they completely erupt. This can help avoid a more complicated and painful extraction in future. As a rule, one should get their wisdom teeth removed at the earliest, usually in the late teens, when the root of the teeth have not completely formed and the bones around the teeth are less dense.

Sleep Apnea

Snoring, teeth grinding and pauses while breathing are often symptoms of a serious condition called Sleep Apnea. If left untreated, Sleep Apnea can lead to headaches, chronic fatigue and even life-threatening risks to your health. One of the things that make Sleep Apnea so dangerous is that a person may not even be aware he or she has it unless it’s witnessed by someone else. This makes it crucial to know the symptoms of Sleep Apnea and to be evaluated by a medical or dental professional as soon as possible. Meraki Dental Studio has a number of advanced treatment options that can help you get a healthier and more peaceful night’s sleep.
Treatment Options for Sleep Apnea and Snoring

Soft tissues in the throat, tongue, and nasal passages become very relaxed while you sleep. This condition is what characterizes Sleep Apnea and it can lead to snoring, teeth grinding and pauses in your breathing. In fact, Sleep Apnea can cause breathing pauses of 10 seconds or more. It is very important to understand that untreated Sleep Apnea conditions carry extraordinary risks, including:

  • Heart disease
  • High blood pressure
  • Diabetes
  • Loss of memory
  • Fatigue
  • Gastric reflux disease

Painless Root Canal Treatment

What is Root Canal Treatment?
Root canal treatment repairs and saves a badly damaged or infected tooth. The term ‘root canal’ comes from cleaning of the canals inside a tooth's root. With advancement in dentistry over the last decade or so, most people now experience minimal pain, if any, with a root canal treatment. Our Root Canal Treatment in Delhi is painless and relieves tooth ache effectively in addition to saving the natural tooth.

Why is Root Canal Treatment needed?
When a tooth is cracked or develops deep cavity, bacteria can enter the pulp. The bacteria and decaying material stuck in the tooth may cause a serious infection or a tooth abscess if left untreated, leading to pulp death, bone loss and loss of the tooth itself.

Signs and symptoms
Signs and symptoms to look out for if you require root canal treatment may include:
  • Swelling around your face and neck
  • A hole in your tooth
  • Toothache or tooth pain
  • Gum swelling
  • Temperature sensitivity, especially to hot

Root Canal Treatment Procedure
The root canal usually takes one to two visits depending upon the amount of infection. First, you have dental X-rays to check the extent of damage. You also receive a local anesthetic to control pain. Decay is removed, and an opening is made through the crown of the tooth to gain access to the pulp chamber. Using small dental instruments, the infected or diseased pulp is removed. After the diseased pulp is removed, the pulp chamber and root canals are flushed and cleaned. The root canals may be reshaped and enlarged to allow better access for filling later. Before permanently filling the root canals, they should be clean of all infection and dried. Medication is sometimes put into the pulp chamber and root canal to clear any infection. If infection has spread beyond the tooth, you may need a prescription for antibiotics. If the root canal requires multiple visits, a temporary filling is placed in the crown to protect the tooth and keep out debris and saliva. Avoid biting or chewing on the tooth until it's been treated and restored. The final stage of the root canal is restoring your tooth. Because the tooth typically has a large filling or is weakened from extensive decay, it needs to be protected from future damage and returned to normal function. This is usually done by placing a crown — a realistic-looking artificial tooth. A crown is made of gold, porcelain or porcelain fused to metal. It can be tinted to match the exact color of your other teeth. Sometimes, a metal post must first be inserted in the tooth for structural support and to keep the crown in place.

root canal

Goal of Root Canal Treatment
The goal of root canal treatment is to save a tooth that might otherwise require extraction. Without treatment, the tissue surrounding the tooth may become severely infected and abscesses may form. Our best dentist in Delhi will examine your case and, based on the extent of damage, suggest undergoing either a root canal treatment or its alternative, i.e., extracting and replacing the damaged tooth with a dental implant, bridge or removable partial denture.

Cost of Root Canal Treatment
The root canal cost is generally between Rs. 6000 – Rs.8000/- depending whether it in a front or a back tooth. Also, if repeat root canal is required or a broken file is to be retrieved.

How long Root Canal Treatment takes?
Our Root canal specialist generally completes root canal in a single – sitting, which usually takes 45 mins – 70 mins. If the case is complicated, or infection is more than two sittings are required.

Risks of Root Canal Treatment
The chief risk of root canal is that it can fail. When root canal treatments fail, sometimes the problem is easily detectable on x-ray -- a missed canal, a perforated root, or inability to clean all the canals all the way to the tip of the root. Sometimes root canals fail for no apparent reason -- that is, no apparent reason until the tooth is extracted and a fracture is found on the root that may not have been seen on x-ray. Our best dentists at Meraki Dental Studio are experts in treating failing root canals.

  • A good alternative to root canal treatment is extraction
  • Root canal therapies are often lengthy, requiring many visits
  • You do not need a root canal if you’re not feeling any pain
  • Root canal treatment doesn't cause pain, it relieves it
  • There is no valid, scientific evidence linking root canal-treated teeth and disease elsewhere in the body
  • Saving your natural teeth, if possible, is the very best option
  • Root canal therapies can be completed in one or two appointments
  • Teeth that require root canal therapy are not always painful

Root Canal FAQs

Is Root canal very painful?

It was believed to be one of the most painful procedure in dentistry. However, contrary to its reputation, root canals relieve pain. It is done under anesthesia, pain is controlled easily.

Is Root canal time consuming?

Earlier it used to take many visits for the completion of the root canal and this caused disturbance in the schedules of the patients and it was a hard task for them. With recent advances, root canals are completed in single sitting unless there is lot of infection or case is very complicated.
Also the cost for extraction is followed by its next procedure like removable denture or implant, which costs more than a root canal procedure.

Is Pain the only symptom for Root Canal?

Pain occurs only when the infection is acute. In chronic cases, pain doesn’t happen. Your tooth may be infected and yet asymptomatic. Pain is not an indicator of infection always.

Is Extraction better?

People believe that getting the tooth removed completely would be better than having root canal done. But maintaining the natural tooth should always be the first goal.
Also the cost for extraction is followed by its next procedure like removable denture or implant, which costs more than a root canal procedure.

Can Root canal be done in pregnant women?

There are suitable anesthetics available for pregnant women and the x-ray required during the root canal treatment is small and focused only in the mouth region, so does not affect the abdominal region. So there is no restriction for pregnant women and they can have the root canal done, but prior to the treatment, the dentist should be kept aware about the fact that the patient is pregnant.

Dental Implants

Losing a tooth (or teeth) can be a shattering experience – emotionally and professionally. Aside from the obvious problems of poor physical appearance and damaged self-esteem, missing teeth also cause subsequent dilemmas like loss of chewing ability or ineffective speech. Dental implants have long been recognized by dental experts as the most effective dental procedure of choice for teeth replacement. Dental implants are substitutes for the roots of missing teeth and are designed to last a lifetime. Because they are fused in the jawbone and are not visible once surgically placed, dental implants are the closest you can get to healthy, natural teeth. Dental implants are uniquely stable, eliminating the need for removable or partial dentures. They can also serve as an anchor for other dental prostheses like crowns, bridges and dentures. With dental implants, you will be able to eat, speak, smile and laugh confidently. You will never have to worry about your teeth all while enjoying your everyday life. We are one of the best clinics who provide dental implants in South Delhi. From start to finish this procedure can take several appointments. But for those with years of hiding a troubled smile, the small time investment is 100% worth it.

Benefits of Dental Implants :

  • Enhanced Appearance :After teeth are lost, ongoing shrinkage of the jawbone occurs making the face look older. Dental implants can stop this process. Implants also prevent the bone loss and gum recession that often accompany traditional bridgework and dentures. Implant-supported teeth look, feel and function like natural teeth.
  • Superior Comfort : Dental implants eliminate the pain and discomfort of removable dentures. Unlike dentures which sit on top of the gums and jawbone, the implants are anchored firmly to the jawbone, eliminating gum irritation and the pain resulting from exposed nerves associated with conventional dentures.
  • Improved Speech : Ill-fitting dentures often result in mumbling, slurred speech or clicking noises. In addition, the facial muscles become tense in an attempt to hold the teeth in place. Implant-supported teeth enable patients to speak and eat with comfort and confidence.
  • More Efficient Chewing : Dental implants can restore chewing efficiency comparable to that of natural teeth. A full upper denture covers the roof of the mouth and reduces the ability to taste food. With dental implants, the roof of the mouth can be freed up so that food can be tasted and enjoyed significantly better.
  • Protection of Remaining Natural Teeth : Unlike a fixed bridge, dental implants do not sacrifice the quality of adjacent teeth because neighboring teeth are not altered to support the implant. The original teeth are left untouched.
  • Highly Reliable : Dental implants are considered an excellent option for teeth replacement and are highly predictable.

How much time before the whole process is completed?

From the initial consultation to the time the final teeth are fitted, the process takes approximately two to six months. Bear in mind that other factors will affect the length of the whole process, including, the speed of healing of the implant site, whether bone grafting is needed, and also whether the patient has other medical complications.

How long will the dental implants last?

Dental implants, like your own natural teeth are subject to infection and disease. It is thus equally important to clean implants like your normal teeth. With good care and regular check-ups, it should serve you well for many years.

Are there any age limitations for dental implants?

No, age in itself is not a limiting factor for using dental implants.

What are the dental implants cost?

Compared to dental implant costs in Delhi, Meraki Dental Studio offers affordable treatment. The dental implant cost depends on the type of implant you choose.
  • Alpha Bio           -    ₹30000
  • Biohorizon        -    ₹45000
  • Noble Bio Care -    ₹55000
  • Sinus Lift           -    ₹15000
  • Bone Crafting   -    ₹5000 - ₹15000

How often will I need to have my dental implants checked?

The implants should be checked when you have your regular dental check-ups meaning preferably every six months.

Are there same day implants?

Yes, if there is enough bone of good quality and no infection that is possible to do.

What might be some of the factors that would prevent me from being an implant candidate?

Active infections in the mouth including gum disease has to be treated before implants can be inserted. Diseases affecting the immune system reducing immunity is also a limiting factor as are some types of medication affecting the immune system. Finally smoking is a risk factor for long-term success of dental implants.

Is dental implant surgery painful?

Dental implant surgery is usually done as 'keyhole surgery' using a local anesthetic and is a painless procedure. There is minimal pain and discomfort after which can be easily controlled with painkillers for a short period of time.

When can I return to work after implant surgery?

There is usually no need to be absent from work following implant surgery.

I have diabetes, Can I still have implants?

Yes, but it is important that the blood sugar is well-controlled and that you maintain a good oral hygiene.

I have gum disease, Can I still have implants?

Yes, but the gum disease has to be stabilized so there is no active gum disease when the implant is inserted.

Pediatric Dentistry / Kids

Develop a lifetime of good oral habits for your newborn by habitually cleaning gums after each feed with a soft, damp washcloth. Also, take your child to a dentist as soon as you welcome the first milk tooth or latest by first birthday. This initiative of yours will provide a better chance to the dentist to prevent any dental problems in your child. Keep in mind that the best time to visit a dentist is in the morning when your child is well rested throughout the night and is more cooperative to dental examination. Also, morning appointments will not pose conflicts on your child’s mealtimes or naps. Remember, children who enjoy their first trip to their dentists suggest a promising attitude towards their dental care, health and habits.

Pedodontists are Child Specialists Who Perform the Following Procedures :

  • Comprehensive Oral Evaluation and Assessments
  • Preventive Dental Care
  • Fluoride Treatments
  • Oral Hygiene Instructions
  • Dental Sealants
  • Painless Dentistry

Pediatric Dental Emergencies

Injuries to children's teeth are stressful for children and parents alike. It is best to contact your dentist immediately should your child need urgent dental treatment. Prompt treatment leads to better chances of treating and saving your child's teeth. Parents must keep the dentist’s emergency phone numbers always available and convenient for easy reference. Here are a few quick fix for dental emergencies before you visit your dentist.

Toothache : First, you should rinse your child's mouth with lukewarm water and gently apply cold compress to reduce any swelling. Never apply heat or aspirin directly on the tooth or gums. Aspirin is acidic and may cause burns or stings. Over the counter pain medications adjusted accordingly to your child's age and weight will help relieve pain and discomfort. If your child has something lodged in between his teeth, gently remove it using a dental floss. Do not use any sharp tool or metal to remove it.
Book an appointment with your dentist immediately.

Broken, Chipped or Knocked Out Tooth : Rinse the affected tooth with clean water and do not touch its root; handle it by the crown only. Do not use soap to clean it. For the knocked out tooth, try to place it back in its socket and gently hold it steady with a clean cloth. If you're unable to do it, place it in a clean container with cold water or milk. Do not wrap it in tissue or in a cloth. The tooth should not be allowed to dry.
Your child should visit the dentist at the earliest to save the tooth.

Loose Tooth : Loose tooth should be removed to avoid your child from swallowing or choking from it. You must ensure that your child only removes the loose tooth. Only your child knows how much discomfort can be withstood.
Visit the dentist at the earliest to examine any possibility of infection.

Broken Jaw : Use cold compress to reduce swelling. Your child might need immediate medical attention as severe blows to the head can be life-threatening.
Rush to a hospital / dentist, as need be, at the earliest.

Pediatric Dentistry FAQ

Are baby teeth important to be cared for?

Primary or 'baby' teeth play a vital role in your child's over-all development. Healthy and well-aligned teeth are essential for proper nutrition, speech and consequently, as well as self-esteem. Without good teeth formation, your child may have difficulty in forming words or speaking clearly. Baby teeth hold space in the jaw for the permanent teeth. Teeth next to a missing tooth may encroach into the space left by the missing tooth thereby resulting to permanent teeth forming in the wrong positions.

What dental problems can my child have at such an early age?

A child's diet is a major factor concerning tooth decay. Teeth are at risk for decay as soon as the first tooth erupts. An early examination evaluates your child's risk of developing an oral disease using a caries risk assessment.

Can my child get tooth decay from milk and other infant formula?

Baby Bottle Tooth Decay (BBTD) or Early Childhood Caries (ECC) is attributed to prolonged duration of bottle feeding among children. Putting a child to sleep with a bottle of milk, juice or formula can lead to tooth decay. In addition, giving your child sweetened liquids over a long period of time means protracted contact between the bacteria on the susceptible tooth surface and the sugars present in the feeds or liquids. This increases the risk for dental caries.

How can I help my child avoid tooth decay?

You should never put your child to sleep with a bottle. Avoid sugary foods and drinks and maintain a healthy diet for your child. Do not flavor pacifiers with sweetened substances like honey or syrups. Also, brush your child’s teeth twice daily and clean them after giving medications that may contain high sugary content.

At what age should I take my child for his first dental checkup?

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry suggests that a child should visit the dentist no later than his first birthday. A child should be examined by the dentist as soon as the first tooth erupts, usually between six to twelve months.

How often should my child visit the dentist?

Ideally, your child should visit a dentist for checkups once every six months. However, your dentist may recommend more or less visits depending on your child's personal oral health.

What happens on your child’s first visit?

Your child’s teeth and gums will be checked for signs of tooth decay or other problems. X-rays may also be taken to evaluate whether the facial bones and teeth are developing properly, or if there are hidden decay. Depending upon the requirement, your child’s teeth will be cleaned and oral habits, such as thumb-sucking, assessed. It’s important that parents talk about the first appointment in a positive way and not use or portray dental visits as punishments. Never let anyone tell your child scary stories about seeing the dentist. Also, never bribe your child into going for the first dental visit; this may appear to children as ways of making them do something that may hurt or disadvantage them. Instead, make your child understand the advantages of having teeth and gums examined while portraying it as a fun activity.

Is it necessary for my child to have dental X-rays taken?

X-ray is a safe procedure for children as well. X-rays help determine whether your child's teeth and jaw are healthy and aligned. It is recommended that X-rays are taken at an early age for your child so that the dentist is able to examine and devise ways to prevent future dental problems.

Does my child need sealants?

Dental sealants are coatings that are used to fill the crevices or pits on the chewing surfaces of teeth to avoid tooth damage. They prevent food particles from being stuck in your child's teeth. It is recommended that a child visits the dentist for his sealants as soon as his permanent teeth set in.

How do I know that my baby has started to teeth? What can I do to help ease the discomfort?

Symptoms of a teething baby include restlessness and irritability, gum swelling, sleeping problems, loss of appetite, increased saliva or drooling, rashes or redness in the cheeks and frequent biting of fingers and other objects into the mouth. You should comfort the baby by giving something to chew on, such as a cold teeth ring or a cold clean washcloth. The child needs to be soothed by regular and gentle massaging and rubbing of the gums. If none of this works, your doctor may suggest giving your baby acetaminophen to relieve the pain.

When should I start cleaning my baby's teeth?

Good oral hygiene should begin even before your baby's first tooth erupts. Get into the habit of wiping the gums with a clean, soft washcloth after each feedings and before you put your baby to sleep. There's no need for toothpaste just yet and you should simply wrap the cloth around your finger and gently rub it along the lower and upper gums. Getting your baby used to having the gums cleaned is a good preparation for tooth brushing later on.

When should I begin brushing my baby’s teeth?

Start using a toothbrush as soon as the first tooth erupts. Use a soft bristled toothbrush and commercially available toothpaste made especially for young children. Teething generally starts at about six months and it causes irritability and discomfort for most babies. You should brush the baby’s tongue gently to avoid buildup of bacteria that causes infections and bad breath. Replace toothbrushes every two to three months.

Does my child require a fluoridated toothpaste? Am I giving my baby just the right amount of toothpaste?

Fluoride strengthens the protective structure of the teeth (enamel). This mineral makes the teeth more resistant to acids and bacteria that break down and damage the tooth enamel. As recommended by the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, use a 'smear' of toothpaste for children less than two years of age and a 'pea-sized' amount for children aged two to five. Too much fluoride can lead to fluorosis. Fluorosis causes white spots that stain the teeth. Remember to teach your child to spit out toothpaste after brushing.

Is thumb-sucking harmful for my child's teeth?

Thumb-sucking is common among children. It is a natural urge for babies to soothe themselves whenever they feel hungry, restless or sleepy. It is best to put a stop to thumb-sucking before permanent teeth come in. This may not only trigger problems with proper chewing and swallowing, it may also cause teeth to grow out of alignment (malocclusion) and position.

How Can I Help My Child Quit Thumb-sucking?

This is a three-pronged process Constantly remind your child the disadvantages of thumb sucking by being open and talking about it. Nagging will most likely lead to worse results. A positive reminder is useful for children who are ready to stop the habit. Distract your child by offering other comfort objects like toys or even pacifiers. Pacifiers make less damage to the oral makeup and structure than thumb-sucking. There are over the counter non-toxic bitter paints that you can apply on the fingernails that may help keep the thumb off your child’s mouth. Start a progress chart and reward your child each day for not sucking the thumb.

Orthodontics and Invisible Braces
ortho_invi_inner When patients think about orthodontics, braces are the first thing to come to mind. However, orthodontics is more than just braces. Orthodontists are concerned with the position of the teeth, what has caused them to arrive at their current position, and what future movement may be needed so that a patient’s bite is fully functional. Your cosmetic dentist may have some orthodontic options available to straighten your teeth, ranging from conventional braces (with wires and brackets) to invisible braces (clear orthodontic aligners). Each method ranges in price and treatment length, and will vary by patient. Ask your cosmetic dentist about which treatment is right for you.

Emax Veneers
ortho_invi_inner Dental veneers are wafer-thin, custom-made shells of tooth-colored materials designed to cover the front surface of teeth to improve your appearance. These shells are bonded to the front of the teeth changing their color, shape, size, or length.

Teeth Whitening
ortho_invi_inner Teeth whitening remains one of the most economical ways to enhance your smile. Your smile creates an immediate, subconscious, visual impact on people you meet. A brighter smile gives the impression of youth, vitality, radiant health, happiness, and warmth. A bright smile is perceived as a healthy smile.

Statistics reveal that we place a high value on our smiles. According to an American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry survey:
  • Virtually all adults (99.7%) believe a smile is an important social asset. 96% of adults believe an attractive smile makes a person more appealing to members of the opposite sex.
  • Three-quarters (74%) of adults feel an unattractive smile can hurt a person’s chance for career success.
  • And when respondents were asked, “What would you like to improve most about your smile?” The most common response was: Whiter & brighter teeth. If you are not happy with your smile, teeth whitening may be a good first step.

Dental Implants
ortho_invi_inner The key benefit of dental implants over other tooth replacement systems is that an implant connects directly to the jaw bone. It’s obviously not the same as the original connection, but functions just the same. When a tooth is lost, bone loss will eventually occur in that region because the root is no longer stimulating and stabilizing the bone. By using titanium–which biochemically joins to bone–to replace the root, you get a bond that more accurately replicates the one found in nature.

Direct Bonding
ortho_invi_inner Tooth Bonding is a popular treatment option because it provides a successful attachment between the filling material and the tooth’s original enamel and dentin. It looks like the original tooth and functions like it as well.

Direct composite bonding is used to recreate a smile in an additive manner, where little or no tooth reduction is needed. Direct bonding, in the hands of a skilled operator, is less costly than porcelain veneers and dental crowns and can be long-lasting with proper maintenance.

Tooth – Colored Fillings
ortho_invi_inner In the past, teeth were filled with a mixture—or amalgam—of different metals. Today that is changing as more natural-looking and metal-free dental fillings are becoming the preferred approach.
Dentists are using more tooth-like materials (composite resins and porcelains) that are both safe and predictable. The most important feature, for many people, is that they look and react more like natural teeth.

Teeth Whitening

Smiles are valuable.
  • And when respondents were asked, “What would you like to improve most about your smile?” The most common response was: whiter and brighter teeth. If you are not happy with your smile, teeth whitening may be a good first step.

Teeth whitening is an increasingly popular way to enhance smiles and boost confidence. . Your smile creates an immediate, subconscious, visual impact on people you meet. A brighter smile gives the impression of youth, vitality, radiant health, happiness, and warmth. A bright smile is perceived as a healthy smile. Our teeth naturally darken and dull with age, while yellowing and stains can occur due to regular consumption of tea, coffee, wine and tobacco products. Thankfully, professional tooth whitening is an easy process that can significantly improve the appearance of your teeth, giving you a brighter more confident smile. Our cosmetic dentists and the experienced dental team at Meraki Dental Studio offer both in-office (at the dental clinic) and at-home (DIY) teeth whitening treatments to help achieve great results.

Causes of Tooth Discolotaion
Deciduous (baby) teeth are typically whiter than the adult teeth that appear later. As we age, our adult teeth often become darker, yellower, or stained. This is partly why white teeth make people appear more youthful. Just as there are a number of ways to lighten or brighten teeth, there are also several different ways for teeth to become discolored. The main causes of darkened teeth are genetics, antibiotics, and certain foods, plus teeth tend to darken as we age. Internal tooth discoloration is caused by changes in the enamel of the tooth and the dentin. The main causes of internal tooth discoloration are exposed to high levels of fluoride, tetracycline, use of antibiotics as a child, developmental disorders, tooth decay, restorations, root canal issues, and trauma. External tooth discoloration is caused by factors outside the body, mainly foods and tobacco. The main causes of external tooth yellowing are smoking, foods with tannins, coffee, tea, carrots, oranges, and other foods.

Types of Tooth Whitening
There are various ways to whiten your teeth, but the two most common are in-office treatment and the do-it-yourself approach, with over-the-counter products. Your cosmetic dentist will work with you to build a cosmetic treatment plan that will effectively address your dental concern and meet your cosmetic goals. Professional teeth whitening administered by our dentist offers highly effective and safe results. Professional teeth whitening gels are designed to minimize side effects like tooth sensitivity often associated with over-the-counter whitening products.

In-Office Teeth Whitening
Professional tooth whitening in a dental office is the preferred whitening method because even though stronger agents are applied, the rest of the mouth, including the gums, is protected from these materials. The best whitening systems feature a buffer in the gel that protects the tooth enamel from damage, are extremely effective, and can transform teeth in a single office visit. Your teeth can literally brighten up to 10 shades in about an hour. In-office whitening affects only the front eight teeth and is a great jump start for take-home whitening, which is always part of an effective whitening program. Your dentist is best qualified to handle any issues that may arise from whitening treatments, such as tooth sensitivity. Today, most tooth sensitivity cases are easily managed. Tooth whitening can last for one or more years, depending on how well you take care of your teeth, and if you’re following up regularly with a home whitening product for regular maintenance.

Home Whitening
Your dentist will make impressions which are then sent to the lab, where special trays are made to fit your mouth exactly. During your next appointment you will be shown how to use your home-whitening kit to whiten your teeth at home. You will need to apply the whitening gel regularly over 10 to 14 days.

Advantages of Professional In-office Whitening Treatment
  • Fast and convenient
  • Whitens teeth to an average of 8 shades
  • Even, consistent teeth whitening
  • Long lasting white results
  • Low sensitivity
  • Safe, comfortable and effective
  • Performed by a trained Dental Professional
Teeth Whitening Cost in (South) Delhi
Tooth whitening cost varies for home and in office. It starts from Rs. 5000/-

How Teeth Whitening Toothpaste Works
Whitening toothpastes work by removing surface stains on teeth, not the ones under the surface. They do this by being more abrasive than other toothpastes, which is why your dentist may discourage you from using whitening toothpastes if you have complained of tooth sensitivity. More than anything, toothpastes are good for preventing stains, not removing them. At-home teeth whitening products from the chemist also contain carbamide or hydrogen peroxide, but in much lower concentrations. They also contain other ingredients for flavour and to help reduce the possibility of tooth sensitivity. The chemicals used in professional teeth whitening are hydrogen peroxide and carbamide peroxide (which breaks down into hydrogen peroxide in your mouth, so hydrogen peroxide is still the active ingredient). Hydrogen peroxide penetrates the teeth and causes a reaction called oxidation, which breaks down the stain compounds.

The Structure of Your Teeth
If you look at teeth under a microscope, you can see that the hard outer layer, called enamel, is made up of a tightly packed crystal structure called rods. While this layer seems solid and smooth to the naked eye, it’s possible for the molecules that cause stains to get deep into the enamel by seeping between the rods. In order to remove stains, dentists use a chemical that can get down to where the stains are and break up them up using a chemical reaction.

Fillings and Dental Crowns
Some people don’t realize that whitening only works on natural teeth. Fillings and crowns are made of artificial materials that look like teeth, and feel like teeth, but chemically speaking, they’re very different. Most restorations are made from ceramic, porcelain, or composite resin. These materials do not react the same way to bleaching chemicals as your natural tooth enamel does. If you have large fillings or crowns, a dentist can recommend alternatives to bleaching for improving the appearance of your smile.

Safe, not sorry
Teeth whitening is now one of the most popular cosmetic dentistry treatments in the market. However, with a mass of information and products out there, it is vital that you research what works, and what may potentially be harmful. It’s a good idea to go to your dentist to consult about whitening treatments as they can evaluate whether your teeth should even undergo whitening to begin with.

Teeth Whitening FAQs

Am I a candidate for teeth whitening?

Just about anyone is a candidate for teeth whitening. At Meraki Dental studio, our dentists will assess your teeth and overall oral health to determine if you are a fit for the teeth whitening procedure.

Do I need an initial consultation before Teeth Whitening?

Yes, it is very important to consult your dentist prior to booking the teeth whitening appointment. It is also highly recommend that you have a cleaning done before teeth whitening. During your initial teeth whitening consultation, our team at Meraki Dental Studio will evaluate your teeth and gums to see if you will benefit from the treatment. Our team also checks for any decay / sensitivity development and keeps in mind any existing dental works such as crowns, fillings and veneers before recommending the appropriate treatment. After a careful review of your lifestyle, expectations and any concerns, our dentists will determine the teeth whitening option that will work best for you.

Is in-office teeth whitening safe?

Yes, for healthy teeth and it does not damage the enamel. The in-office whitening gel’s active ingredient is hydrogen peroxide which breaks down into oxygen and removes the stain to make your teeth whiter while leaving your tooth structure unchanged.

Why was I given a home whitening kit?

Home whitening kit along with a custom-fitted tray is provided to complement the in-office treatment. You may be required to wear the tray for an hour each day after the procedure, as directed by our dentists, for better results. Remember to brush and floss your teeth before you wear your whitening tray.

How long will the results last?

While teeth whitening results may last for up to a year, the duration may vary depending on your genes, oral hygiene and lifestyle habits, such as smoking and drinking.

How white should I go?

A naturally white smile is a wonderful asset anyone can have. Ideally, the color of your teeth should match the whites of your eyes.

Will I experience tooth sensitivity during or after the treatment?

It is not uncommon to experience tooth sensitivity during the first 24 hours following teeth whitening. Your dentist may advise you to take OTC analgesics like paracetamol or ibuprofen to relieve your discomfort. The feeling of sensitivity and soreness will gradually ease off after one or two days.

How can I care for my whitened teeth?

Caring for newly whitened teeth is easy! Maintain proper oral hygiene—brush your teeth twice and floss once on a daily basis, using a fluoride toothpaste. Get your teeth cleaned every six months or as recommended by your dentist. To maintain the white color of your teeth, avoid acidic and dark-colored foods and beverages like tea, coffee, red wine, sports drinks, carbonated drinks and sauces like tomato, soy and curry.

Dental Crowns and Bridges

Over time, teeth can be damaged, cracked or weakened by decay. Dentists use a crown to entirely cover or "cap" a damaged tooth. Dental crowns are made to match the color of your natural teeth, and besides strengthening an impaired tooth, these can be used to improve your teeth’s appearance, shape or alignment. Dental crowns can be fashioned from stainless steel, ceramic, acrylic, gold and metal alloys. Unlike removable devices such as dentures, crowns are cemented onto the existing teeth or implants, and can only be removed by your dentist.
Clinical situations:
  • Protect a weak tooth from breaking, or hold together segments of a cracked tooth
  • Restore an already damaged tooth
  • Replace a large filling when there is not enough tooth remaining
  • Hold a dental bridge in place
  • Cover dental implants, badly shaped or severely discolored teeth
  • Cap a tooth that has had root canal treatment
How long does a dental crown last?

With good oral hygiene, crowns can last a lifetime. A crown may become loose or fall out if the underlying tooth is damaged by gum disease or tooth decay. While a crowned tooth does not require any special care, it is important to keep your gums and teeth healthy by following the basic principles of oral hygiene—brushing with fluoride toothpaste for two minutes twice a day and flossing daily. Also, remember that regular checkups and professional cleanings are just as necessary to make sure you maintain your optimum oral health. A Dental bridge, also known as a fixed denture, literally bridges the gap created by one or more missing teeth. A typical bridge is made up of two crowns (one on either side of the gap) and a false tooth in between. Bridges are attached to surrounding natural teeth or dental implants for support. The anchoring teeth are called abutment teeth and the false teeth are called pontics. Pontics can be made from porcelain, alloys, gold or a combination of materials. If you have lost a tooth/teeth, bridges can restore your smile, your ability to speak and chew properly and maintain your facial structure. Bridges can also prevent your remaining teeth from shifting out of position.

Invisalign® Invisible Braces

Invisible Braces
Invisible braces/ Clear aligners are the clear alternative to traditional metal braces. It uses virtually invisible and removable teeth aligners, custom tailored to straighten your teeth without the pain and inconvenience of wires and brackets. It is a clear align technology to straighten your crooked teeth. The braces themselves are "trays" made from medical grade plastic (polyurethane from methylene diphenyl diisocyanate and 1.6-hexanediol). Most popular Invisible braces / clear aligner brands are Invisalign, K-line, Clearpath.

How Invisible braces work? Do Invisible braces really work?
They work in a series of trays that gradually shift your teeth into place. Each tray is manufactured so that the teeth are slightly straighter than the previous tray. Each aligner must be worn in its specific order for about two weeks, during which time it moves the teeth in small increments of about .25 millimeters to .33 millimeters. Although the aligners are removable (for eating, drinking certain beverages and brushing/flossing), they must be worn at least 20 hours a day in order to reposition the teeth successfully. A typical treatment requires 20 to 30 aligners for both the upper and lower teeth. Most adults complete their treatment in less than one year. However, treatment time depends on the specific alignment problem.

Are You a Candidate for Clear Aligners /Invisible braces?
According to researchers and Align Technologies, Invisible braces can be used to correct the following types of dental problems:
  • Overly crowded teeth - When there is not enough room in the jaw for all of the teeth to fit comfortably or normally (one to five millimeters).
  • Widely spaced teeth - When there is too much space between the teeth due to abnormal growth of the jaw or shifting of the teeth due to missing teeth (one millimeter to five millimeters).
  • Overbite/overjet - When the upper teeth bite over the lower teeth.
  • Crossbite - When the upper and lower jaws are misaligned, causing one or more upper teeth to bite on the inside of the lower teeth, on either the front and/or sides of the mouth.
  • Mild relapse - After traditional braces have been removed, when some relapsing tooth movement has occurred.
Invisible braces treatment procedure
Initially, consultation appointment is made with our best dentist in Delhi. Our team will determine whether invisible braces/ clear aligners will work for your teeth. After your consultation, your invisalign dentist in delhi will perform a digital scan to create a customized treatment plan for you using precise 3-D images of your teeth to map out their movements over the course of your treatment. These images are then used to create your custom-made aligners. The smooth, BPA-free plastic is non-irritating and comfortable for constant wear. About every two weeks, you will graduate to your next set of aligners, until your teeth have shifted into their final spots, revealing your most perfect smile. The aligners straighten teeth through the use of patented thermoplastic design. Invisalign not only controls the force used to straighten teeth, but it also controls the timing of force application. Only a few teeth are moved during each stage — this is determined by dentist as they map out your individual treatment plan.

There are several advantages of Invisalign® over metal braces; following is a brief comparison
  • Plastic aligners, smooth and comfortable
  • Virtually invisible aligners
  • Removable and easy to clean
  • Enjoy all types of food
  • Lesser dental visits
Metal Braces
  • Uses conspicuous wires and brackets
  • Requires extra effort in brushing and flossing
  • Wires can irritate cheeks and gums
  • Many restrictions to eating
  • More frequent dental visits
Types of Invisalign
There are four main types of invisalign treatment. Full mouth invisalign is the most common, consisting of trays that affix to both upper and lower teeth. These are usually worn for the longest duration and are the most expensive. Short term (called “invisalign lite") are for less complex issues that can take up to 7 months. Partial aligners target a specific area of your mouth and are used to fix just a couple crooked teeth, or correct previous orthodontic work. This is the quickest alignment lasting up to 3 months. Finally Invisalign offer a Teen option. These are aligners that have special indicators so parents can verify if their child has been keeping the trays in for the required 22-24 hours a day.

Invisalign Treatment Timeline
For adults, the treatment time for an average adult case is around 12 months — this varies, of course, on the severity of each individual case. For teens, treatment time can vary. For all patients, your dentist will work closely with you to develop an individual treatment plan fully customized to your unique needs. Your definitive timeline is decided when the clincheck is done. In addition, your Invisalign provider may use attachments to further perfect your smile. In some cases, tooth-colored composite “buttons” may be placed on your teeth that help the aligner grip the teeth better, which can then result in the desired tooth movement.

Benefits of Invisalign
Invisalign allows you to view what your smile will look like when treatment is complete, even at the start of your treatment plan. Also, unlike metal braces, Invisalign doesn’t rub or irritate your mouth like wires and brackets can. This means you don’t have to worry about applying wax to irritating brackets because the inside of your cheeks are scratched, bleeding and sore — this simply isn’t a problem with Invisalign. While the first few days of each treatment stage can be a little uncomfortable (often described as a feeling of pressure), Invisalign is far easier to deal with than traditional metal braces as far as pain and anxiety goes.

How much do invisible braces cost?
The cost of invisible braces is mainly dependent on how much adjustment your teeth need. Patients who require more time for alignment will require more plastic trays and will consequently be paying more. It roughly starts from Rs. 1,00,000/- Keep in mind that we offer a financing option if you so choose.

Invisalign Certification
Align Technologies specially trains dentists to use the aligners. Meraki dental studio has the best invisalign dentist in Delhi.

What is Invisalign® and how does it work?

Invisalign® is a type of aligner system which helps to correct your smile without being visible. These aligners(invisible braces) look similar to a bleaching tray which might lead you to think that they would not be able to correct your teeth. But these aligners are made up of a special type of thermoplastic resin that exerts transient force on your teeth to align them. Your orthodontist will take some special impressions, X-rays and photographs and send them across to the Invisalign® technicians along with the proposed treatment plan. These impressions are then scanned to create a 3-D model of your teeth and occlusion. Next, the Invisalign® technician digitally moves around the teeth in the 3-D model to align them to their desired position. This gradual movement from start to finish is made into an animated film called a ‘ClinCheck’ video. This is where you, as a patient, get involved in your treatment plan. Your dentist will show this video and you can either choose to accept the plan or make any changes to it. Once the treatment plan is finalized, Invisalign® manufactures the custom aligners using CAD/ CAM technology and delivers it to your dentist. Typically, the patient wears multiple aligners or invisible braces, each for a period of two weeks until the desired result is achieved.

What are the advantages of Invisalign® over other orthodontic solutions?

One of the main drawbacks of traditional orthodontic treatment is its visibility. Most adults have job constraints and social situations like weddings etc. which makes them reconsider undergoing fixed orthodontic treatment. This is where Invisalign® has a huge advantage—it straightens your teeth without being visible and affecting your life. The clear plastic trays or braces are almost invisible when compared to the metal train tracks. They do not affect your speech and are very comfortable to wear. Another advantage is that Invisalign® is not fixed to your teeth and, thus, you have no diet restrictions and it is also easy to keep your teeth clean.

Who are the best candidates for Invisalign®?

Invisalign® can be used on most adults and teenagers to align their teeth. However, there are certain cases which require more precise tooth control such as closure of extraction space, impacted teeth and teeth with poor bone levels. Such situations demand more control over tooth movement which is difficult to achieve with a removable aligner. Such cases are best treated with fixed orthodontic treatment or a partial fixed treatment along with Invisalign®. Also, patient compliance is of utmost importance in achieving successful results with Invisalign®, and if you think you are not going to be responsible with wearing removable aligners we recommend you go in for fixed braces instead.

What can I expect on my first appointment for Invisalign®?

Your first appointment is a standard consultation appointment wherein the orthodontist will see your case and speak to you and understand what your concerns are. Also, the dentist will take your diagnostic records, X-rays, Study models and photographs. After analyzing these records, a treatment plan is made which is best suited for you. If you are a suitable case for Invisalign®, the next appointment will be scheduled to take the final impressions and bite registrations, which are then sent to Invisalign®.

How long does the Invisalign® treatment take?

Once the final impressions have been sent, it takes approximately 7-10 days to get your ‘ClinCheck’ video and once this has been approved, another 7-15 days to receive the aligners.

How often should the Invisalign® patient see the dentist?

Unlike conventional orthodontic treatment wherein the patient visits the orthodontist every 4-6 weeks for adjustments, the Invisalign® patient will be fixed according to your treatment plan. You will need to see your dentist if any IPR (Interproximal Reductions) need to be done or if any attachments need to be placed. This makes it super convenient for patients who travel around for work. We recommend our patients to come in every 6-8 weeks, if possible, to make sure everything is going according to the prescribed plan and also to make sure you are motivated to keep wearing your aligners.

How often should Invisalign® aligners be worn?

Aligners are worn for a minimum of 22 hours per day for two weeks before shifting to the next aligner. Don’t worry, you would not even feel that you are wearing anything at all which is why they are also known as invisible braces.Apart from removing the aligners while eating or drinking anything colored, you can easily wear them all the time.

Do I wear retainers after the Invisalign® treatment?

Teeth have memory and they tend to go back to their original position, hence it is important to retain them in place after any form of orthodontic treatment.

What are the payment options?

The charges for Invisalign® are determined by complexity of the case; an easy case will require fewer aligners and adjustments and hence cost much less than a more complicated case. We do our bit to make the cost of Invisalign® treatment affordable. The cost can be recovered over the entire treatment period in installments.

Damon Clear Braces

Damon system uses “self-ligating” braces. This means that the brackets themselves hold the wire in place without the need for elastics or metal ties. Most patients dread the days when their orthodontists tighten their braces. Because the Damon system is a tieless technology, there is more freedom of movement with no need for tightening.

Benefits of Damon Braces
  • Unlike traditional braces that are tied in with elastics which cause friction and pressure, Damon braces allow teeth to move freely, quickly and comfortably

Inman Aligners

The Inman Aligner is a simple removable appliance used to align the front teeth quickly and safely. This is an ideal standalone treatment or even a preparatory step for pre-aligning teeth and undergo cosmetic options such as bonding or minimal veneers.

The Inman Aligner has Nickel Titanium coil springs that power two aligner bows which gently oppose each other, thus guiding the teeth into their new position. These gentle forces are active over very large range of movements, which is why the Inman Aligner works so quickly.

The image below shows the squeeze effect of the two aligner bows on the front teeth. The inner bow pushes forwards, while the outer bow pulls back on the front teeth.

Treatment Procedure and Duration for Inman Aligners
  • The dentist initially takes the impressions of your teeth and gets your custom-made Inman Aligners fabricated from the lab
  • The dentist will then call you for the initial fitting of the Aligner
  • It is recommended to wear the Aligner for 16-20 hours a day and visit the dentist every 2-3 weeks for regular checks
  • Your treatment duration may last anywhere between 6 and 18 weeks, depending on the quantum of alignment your teeth require
  • Post completion of the Inman Aligner treatment, as with other orthodontic treatments, retention is recommended for life to prevent relapse. Retention can come in the form of a lingually bonded retainer or an Essix retainer

Ceramic Braces

At Meraki Dental Studio, clear ceramic braces are a popular choice among many patients. These braces are made of ceramic alloys that are made to match the color of your teeth. Because of their transparency, ceramic braces have gained popularity among adult patients who wish to straighten their teeth without attracting much attention to their orthodontics.

Benefits of Ceramic Braces
  • Ceramic brackets are generally stain-resistant. They will not become discolored throughout the course of your treatment
  • Ceramic braces are unique because their color blends in with the teeth, making them less noticeable compared to traditional metal braces

Metal Braces

Metal braces are the most common orthodontic treatment for children and teens. Metal braces, often referred to as train tracks, have come a long way and are now a lot more visually appealing and comfortable than ever before.

Benefits of Metal Braces
  • Metal braces are usually the most cost-effective orthodontic treatment
  • Metal braces can be jazzed up with different colored bands with each appointment

Dental Crown

Commonly used crowns are:
  • Metal Ceramic Crowns
  • E-max Crowns
  • Zirconia Crowns

Metal Ceramic Crowns

Metal ceramic crowns are a traditional type of crown often used in bridges plus crown and bridge cases. They are often fitted onto back teeth and are considered a strong, robust type of crown. But they are viewed as less than attractive. Many people choose the all ceramic crowns, zirconium or the E-Max crown for their greater aesthetic appeal.

What Is A Metal Ceramic Crown?
Another name for this is a ‘porcelain fused to metal’ crown. They consist of a metal interior or base which is fused to porcelain crowns. The metal interior can be produced from a range of metals, e.g. alloy and this is what gives this crown its strength.

Advantages Of Metal Ceramic Crowns
This type of crown is both robust and long lasting. It is considered a better fit than many other types of crowns and to have greater strength as well. They are often cheaper than other types of crowns, for example all ceramic crowns. The cost of a crown depends upon the material/s used, the location in the jaw (e.g. front or back tooth) and the extent of the procedure. As you might imagine, the more crowns you need the longer this will take which will increase the cost.

Disadvantages Of Metal Ceramic Crowns
A disadvantage with this crown is that there is often a structural weakness in the ceramic crown. The crown can be prone to chipping or a fracture. There is a risk of this occurring due to the complexity of the fabrication procedure. There is a high degree of difficulty in producing metal crowns which increases the likelihood of this. Plus this is a thicker type of crown which can mean the dentist having to remove a larger portion of your affected tooth. Tooth reduction is a part of the preparation stage but the amount removed depends upon the state of the tooth and the type of crown being fitted. Increased tooth reduction can cause problems if this procedure has to be reversed some time in the future. Finally, there is an aesthetic issue with metal ceramic crowns. What tends to happen is that the metal base begins to appear around the gum line or darkens the porcelain crown. This is more likely to occur in people who have receding gums but it is something to bear in mind when choosing a crown. There are people who dislike this obvious grey line around the edge of the crown and choose a ceramic crown instead.

E-max Crowns

The E-Max crown is a type of all-ceramic crown which is preferred for its longer lasting, aesthetic qualities. This crown and the Zirconia crown are worn due to their highly attractive appearance which ensures that they compliment the rest of your teeth. It is considered a good option for damaged, stained or poor quality teeth.

What Is An E-max Crown?
This is a type of all-ceramic crown with an appealing translucent colour which is combined with extra strength and durability. This crown is made from a single block of lithium disilicate ceramic: this is a top grade material which has been harvested for its toughness, durability and opaque qualities which makes it a highly prized crown. Plus it is considered a breakthrough in dental crown technology. You get a glass ceramic crown which is tough and enduring but delicate in appearance.

Advantages Of An E-max Crown
This crown is considered to be the best match with your own natural teeth. The transparent colour and lifelike shape ensures that it is unlikely to be noticed amongst your own natural teeth. There is no metal alloy base with this crown which means no unsightly looking grey line around the gum line. They are strong, long lasting and unlikely to crack or fracture as compared to many other types of crowns. They are considered to be at less risk of chipping compared to zirconia crowns.
Disadvantages Of An E-Max Crown

The only disadvantage is to do with the cost. A premium crown such as this which can be fitted without the need for any preparation is likely to be more expensive than other types of crowns. They may not be suitable for everyone so check with your dentist to see if this crown is available and if it is right for you.

Zirconia Crowns

A zirconia crown is a popular type of all-ceramic crown which is worn to improve the appearance of a tooth which has become stained or disfigured over the years. They are durable, easy to wear and long lasting. Plus zirconia crowns have a translucent appearance which means that they are indistinguishable from your own teeth. It is hard to spot a zirconia crown amongst natural teeth.

What Is A Zirconia Crown?
This type of crown is made from zirconia, a very strong material which is compatible with the human body. Zirconia is used in many other medical applications such as artificial joints and is known for its strength and durability. Zirconia is a type of crystal which is long lasting and indestructible. Plus there is no fear about the body rejecting zirconia or displaying an allergic reaction to it. It is safe to use and preferred by many people to porcelain fused to metal crowns.

Advantages Of A Zirconia Crown

There are three advantages which are:
  • Strength: zirconia crowns last longer than other types of crowns.
  • Aesthetics: these crowns have an attractive translucent colour which blends in well with the other teeth.
  • Retain more of the existing tooth: minimal preparation is required which means more of the original tooth is preserved. This is useful if the crown needs to be removed.

So, a good choice if you are looking for a strong, long lasting and visually appealing crown. They are ideal at covering signs of damage or staining as well as helping to maintain the function of the tooth.

Disadvantages Of A Zirconia Crown
The tough, durable nature of a zirconia crown can work against it as well as in its favour. This material has an abrasive quality which can cause friction against the root of the tooth as well as other teeth.

Immediate Implants

Immediate Implant: In some cases it is possible to extract a tooth and place an implant at the time of extraction. This technique is called Immediate Implant placement. This procedure carries several advantages including decreased time of treatment and fewer surgical procedures. Wherever possible we will consider this option if it is in your best interest.   Immediate implants may also have certain drawbacks. If the tooth to be extracted is not in the ideal position, then it may affect the final outcome of the restoration. In addition, it is important that any infection that may be present at the time of extraction is resolved as this may affect the success of implant placement. Whilst many teeth at the front of the mouth have only one root and are suitable for immediate implant placement, this does not necessary apply to teeth at the back of the mouth that have several roots.   In order to assess if you are a suitable candidate for Immediate Implant placement, radiographs will need to be taken to assess your root anatomy. The decision as to immediate implant placement is also often made at the time of extraction of the tooth.   In some cases, it may also be possible to place a restoration on the immediate implant. This is termed Immediate Loading. Factors that may influence this decision are:
  • The amount of bone available for implant placement.
  • The way that your teeth come together and the forces they made exert on the newly placed implant(s).

We will be happy to consider this option to decide if the treatment is appropriate for your situation.
